Diary Entry For: Monday the 21st August 2000

Well, the site was finally uploaded today. It's the third incarnation of the site and the only one with content I'm anywhere near to being all that pleased with. That sounds big-headed but it's not supposed to - what I mean is the content is more varied than before and I think there's something here that will be of interest to someone somewhere.

Getting the site online wasn't a simple task either - my hard drive cracked (literally) a fortnight ago and I lost all the data for the site except for the first 22 pictures and the two html pages in the CCDE section; which didn't give me a lot to work from in order to recover it. I really should back-up more often but I'm far too careless for that. I managed to get 'round the nagging from my parents by telling them the drive broke on 'Backup Day' whereas in reality 'Backup Day' is any day that I get a premonition that I'm about to do something stupid (ie the day I typed "rm -rf /" while logged in as root, just to see how long it would be before the system cround to a halt (not long as it turned out - especially not while running GNOME). As it turned out that was a *very* good day to backup >:))

I'm sure I've wasted today when all things are considered. I payed off my credit card, put some money into my bank account and bought the comic adaptation of the new X-Men film, which opened last Thursday. You can read my review of that comic here but, in a nutshell, it's a piece of crap which is a blatant cash-in on the film that's much better.

So, apart from this what have I done? To be honest, not a lot. I cooked a vegetable stir fry which was rather nice, even if I do say so myself. We, that is my family and I, ate it and watched a rather poorly-chosen TV program that dealt with murderers and how they were caught - not the sort of thing you want to watch while eating, really. I blame my Dad - it was him who put it on.

I'm still not convinced that the title image for this site is right. It seems rather cluttered. Maybe I'll make a new version tomorrow but not right now - I'm far too tired. It is getting on to 1am and it's not even Monday anymore.
