Diary Entry For: Wednesday the 4th of October 2000

I'm sitting here in front of my computer, with music blaring in the background, psyching myself up to go into university. I really don't feel like it - my back has been aching and my feet are sore from walking around a lot yesterday when I was wandering around a city I don't know very well, killing time until my job interview.

I've got to go into town anyway - I need to pick up my student loan cheque and also, 2000 AD came out today; so I'll go and get that. I'll also stop off at university and have a look around. I've got to find the Physical Society ('physics club', for anyone who isn't sure. As you can see, it's not as exciting as the name can suggest) and sign-up, as I forgot last year.

I'd best get on with it - that way it's over quicker and I can come home and get prepared for tomorrow's lectures.

On the whole, I suppose things haven't been too bad. I signed up for a few things, met up with some friends I haven't seen since last university year; which seems so long ago now. Anyway, maybe things will turn out better this year - I certainly hope to be able to get more involved in things and began this by offering my services to the student newsletter as a cartoonist. I don't know whether they'll take me up on that offer but we'll see.

Following last night's fiddling, my computer now serves http to the masses whenever I'm online. This only works if you know my IP address for that session, but that's beside the point as all that's served is a copy of this website, minus the pop-up ads from Tripod. Really it's just a bit of fun and a way of learning a bit more about how my computer works and interacts with other systems on the Internet.

After checking my e-mail I've discovered a message from Amazon.com, replying to the message I sent them yesterday. As well as apologising to me for sending the wrong DVD they have dispatched a replacement even before the original has had time to be returned to them and have also given me a $10 discount certificate for use on my next order, which is very kind of them. I'm an incredibly happy person now. >:)
